Statistics indicate that 5 people per 100,000 are diagnosed annually with WM. While those suffering with WM tend to be older—the average age is 62—the disease is diagnosed in people as young as 18. It is not known if genetics and/or environment are influencing factors for those diagnosed with WM. There may be as many as 100,000 people worldwide with the disease.
